Application Requirements

MBA@Simmons

To apply to MBA@Simmons, you must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and submit the following:

  • Completed online application form
  • One essay
  • Two letters of recommendation from professional references with at least one from a supervisor, preferably from your current role
  • Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate courses, including all study abroad courses
  • Current résumé
  • Nonrefundable application fee of $75
    (Fee is reduced to $45 if application is submitted on or before the priority deadline)
  • GRE/GMAT scores are not required for admission but will be accepted if the applicant chooses to submit them

In the event that the Admission Committee needs more information to review an application, an applicant may be required to participate in an interview with the Committee.

Pre-MBA Course

The Pre-MBA course is designed for students who wish to improve their quantitative skills prior to beginning the full MBA@Simmons program and/or students who have been away from the classroom setting for an extended period. Some applicants may receive conditional admission to MBA@Simmons and will be required to complete the Pre-MBA course with a passing grade before matriculating into the full program. Enrollment in the Pre-MBA course will not count toward degree requirements. Learn more about Pre-MBA.

TOEFL or IELTS Scores

If English is not your first language, you are also required to submit an official TOEFL or IELTS score report, demonstrating satisfactory English language proficiency.    

Please note that the TOEFL or IELTS is not required from applicants who have earned either a bachelor’s or master’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. postsecondary institution or from a postsecondary institution recognized by the Ministry of Education in an English-speaking country.

Résumé

Your résumé should include the following:

  • Educational background including:
    • Institutions, degree(s) awarded or in progress
    • Dates and/or anticipated dates of degree(s) awarded
  • Relevant employment history including:
    • Job title, job description, relevant duties performed
    • Employment dates of each position
  • Community service or volunteer experience
  • Awards, publications, presentations, and memberships
  • Evidence of leadership and career progression

Essay

In 500-1,000 words, describe your reasons for pursuing an MBA. In your response, be sure to explain the following:

  • How your professional experience has prepared you to succeed in our MBA program
  • Your short-term and long-term career goals and how earning an MBA from Simmons University will contribute to your career success
  • An experience where you demonstrated leadership abilities in your workplace or community

Transcripts

Please submit sealed, official transcripts from all postsecondary institutions attended, including study abroad programs and community colleges, even if a degree was not obtained. Please request official transcripts and other official application materials to be mailed to:

Many schools issue transcripts electronically, either through their own web services or through vendors. If this option is available, applicants should specify that their transcript(s) be emailed to Application Services or select Simmons University – MBA@Simmons if listed as an option through the vendor. This will expedite the delivery of the transcript(s) and the completion of the candidate’s application.

All coursework from non-U.S. institutions must be evaluated by an evaluation service such as World Education ServicesInternational Education Research FoundationEducation Credential Evaluation, or AACRAO International Education Services. Please allow for additional time in the application process to have all transcripts evaluated by these organizations. Course by course evaluations are required.

Recommendation Forms

Two professional recommendations from individuals who know you in the workplace are required, and at least one should be written by a supervisor, preferably from your current role. Your recommenders must be able to speak in-depth to your verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving and decision-making skills, your ability to work independently and as a member of a team, and your leadership potential.

Letters of recommendation must be written within one year of the application submission date, and individuals providing recommendations must complete Simmons’ online recommendation form and address the applicant’s professional dedication and ability to succeed in a competitive master’s degree program.
